Grappa's has always been a local favourite. It serves homey-style Italian pastas and pizzas- many of which are original! Having operated for almost 30 years, Grappa's has built up a wide fan base and almost everyone who has lived in Hong Kong for a considerable amount of time knows it. It is that hippie affordable Italian restaurant with a mean pasta, friendly waiters and that optical illusion design on the tiled floor. Calamari Fritti Succulent and bursting with flavour. I could eat these as a substitute for chips. Crunchy like a nugget on the outside, chewy and rubbery like chewing gum on the inside. Not too oily and perfect. The best part is the aioli on the side. I do not know what it is made of but it is my favourite aioli in the world (tied with the chili aioli from Classified) The Lasagna is my go-to pasta order. Hot melted cheese with minced beef, a rich tomato sauce with basil and chewy layers of pasta- what could possibly go wrong? I love how tangy the basil tomato sauce is and yet how everything just fits together. Nothing is too overpowering. It tastes so homey and yet who on earth could make such a tasty lasagna at home? We always order the signature Pizza Alla Salsicca with thin slices of salami as the base and minced spicy sausage at the top (kind of like the rou song in Asia we eat). Although it's hard to get used to the texture and dropping the minced sausage everywhere, I would really recommend this pizza because of the dynamic mix of tastes and textures. Perfect for every meat eater. It is really delicious. I promise.
