I actually noticed the beautiful but menacing cliff, towering over the raging waves before we had even taken one step into the flaky pure sand of Bondi Beach. As we got closer, I was beginning to see the shape of a swimming pool. Intrigued, I asked my mom what the unique structure was. She said it was a club and restaurant called Iceberg, where we were going to have dinner. Upon entering, I noticed the dim lights, upbeat music and laughter coming from all corners of the room. The whole environment was very relaxed. Everyone was in party-mode, goofing around and spending time with their friends and loved ones. Outside, there was a huge crowd of people, waiting to be seated. The waitress at the entrance was bubbly and inviting, giving the atmosphere that cheerful vibe. Iceberg is the place to go after you've finished exploring the sceneric Bondi Beach, and you're looking for a relaxing and at the same time authentic place to dine after a long day. Iceberg is not only a restaurant, but also a club, which has a unique swimming pool which uses fresh sea water from the ocean for it's water. Sadly, our family couldn't have a dip as we weren't members of the club. The whole atmosphere was very inviting. I couldn't wait to start eating. Australian people are very relaxed with cooking, which leads to long waiting time for the food. With the huge amount of people inside the restaurant, no wonder the food takes so long to come. By the time the appetizers arrived, I was starving myself to death. Appetizers |
Pacific Oysters: These Pacific Oysters were probably the freshest oysters I've ever eaten in my whole life. You could basically taste the ocean as you swallowed them. Atlantic Oysters: I actually didn't enjoy these oysters as much. Even though they were much more expensive, I found them far to creamy for my liking. | Ocean Cracker: The Cracker was absolutely delicious. The cracker was crisp and crunchy, and with the rest of the ingredients, the cracker was mixed together and turned into one perfect, delightful dish. |
Mains
The Scarlet Prawn Risotto: The whole dish was flavoured perfectly, not to salty, not to mild. The shrimps were cooked to perfection, chewy and juicy. I really liked the tiny tiny bread crumbs inside the rice, it's crunchiness really helped balance out the dish, and it went super well with the risotto. |
Whole Snapper (Fish of the day): My dad wanted to go for something more adventurous, so he ordered the Whole Snapper (Fish of the Day). Iceberg gets fresh fish everyday from Sydney's bustling harbour, so you can guarantee that your fish will be fresh. The Snapper was delicious. It had a lean, firm texture and was moisty, with mildly sweet and fresh that felt just like the sea. The lemon sauce went pretty well the dish, except it was lacking a bit of seasoning. | Moreton Bay Bug Spaghetti: Although this dish was very simple, it was by far my favourite dish of the night. With a classic, rich, flavorful tomato sauce, the dish was one of the best pastas I've ever eaten. The noodles were cooked to perfection, chewy, and full of the richness of the sauce. The Bay Bug (basically a lobster) was a perfect protein for this dish, fresh, chewy and juicy, all at the same time. |
